E. LATRICE GOES TO AFRICA

“E.Latrice Goes to Africa” captures a deeply meaningful chapter of my journey as a visual artist, one that extends far beyond the canvas. Back in 2019 I had the privilege to travel to Arusha, Tanzania where I partnered with a local nonprofit, AIM Tanzania, to help develop an art program and teach art to various groups and students in the local village. It was an honor serving children and young adults in need of creative support and safe community.

Through hands-on art classes, I shared not only techniques, but encouragement , empowering each child to explore their imagination, express their voice, and recognize the value of their own gifts. This experience reflects the heart of my work: using art as a tool for connection, healing, and possibility. I believe creativity belongs to everyone, and when nurtured, it can inspire confidence, joy, and transformation , no matter where you are in the world.

From 2023–2024, I co-founded and served as the Executive director of  the Fairfield Black Art Collective, a community-centered arts initiative based in Fairfield, Alabama. The collective focused on amplifying Black artists through exhibitions, public programming, and cultural storytelling.

This collaborative work played a foundational role in shaping my approach to art, community engagement, and visual narrative.

The collective is no longer active.
